Description
Completed in 1925, the fountain in Belle Isle Park in Detroit, MI honors the controversial James Scott, who was described as a "vindictive, scurrilous misanthrope" by author W. Hawkins Ferry. When Scott died in 1910 with no heirs, he bequeathed $200,000 of his estate to the City of Detroit with the condition that the fountain be a tribute to himself and include a life-sized bronze statue of him – which can be found in an inconspicuous spot behind the fountain.
