Description
Streets are the lifeblood of any city, and in 1811 a plan was put in place to prepare New York City's Manhattan for its unimaginable growth. Known today as the grid street system, it took about 60 years for the grid to be built up to 155th Street. Altogether, the plan included 11 major avenues and 155 crosstown streets.
